Apple has finally entered the foldable phone market. The iPhone Duo is the company’s first foldable iPhone, and it is one of the biggest changes to the iPhone lineup in years. It has a book-style fold, Apple’s largest iPhone display, and a price that puts it above every other iPhone.

What Is the iPhone Duo?
The iPhone Duo opens like a book. Closed, it shows a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display. Apple says this covers more than 90% of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro. Open it and you get a 7.6-inch inner display, about 50% larger than the one on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
It is also very thin. Unfolded, the Duo is just 5.2mm thick, which makes it the thinnest iPhone Apple has made. That is thinner than the iPhone Air. Folded, it measures 11.3mm.
Inside is the A20 Pro chip, the same processor as the iPhone 18 Pro. Storage starts at 256GB and goes up to 2TB.

The iPhone Duo is the most expensive iPhone Apple has launched.

Apple also sells 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions. Canadian pricing runs from $2,999 for 256GB up to $4,799 for 2TB. India prices for the higher storage tiers haven’t been announced yet.
For comparison, the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at ₹1,79,900 in India. The Duo costs about ₹1.2 lakh more.

Display: Why Two Screens Feel Natural
Foldables often change how content looks when you open or close them. The Duo avoids this because the inner and outer screens have the same aspect ratio. When you open the phone in the middle of an article, the content scales up instead of rearranging itself.
Both screens are Super Retina XDR panels with ProMotion up to 120Hz and 3,000 nits of peak brightness, so they stay readable in bright sunlight. The inner display has a nano-texture matte finish that cuts glare and helps hide the crease. Apple also built the layers to glide past each other as the phone folds, which reduces stress on the screen.

Battery Life and Charging
The Duo has one battery on each side of the hinge. Apple’s software balances them so they work as a single unit. Apple’s claimed figures are:
- Up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display
- Up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer display
- Up to 24 hours of typical use with both screens in equal use
Wired fast charging reaches 50% in about 20 minutes. Wireless charging on a MagSafe or Qi2 charger takes about 30 minutes. That is quick for a phone with two batteries.
iOS 27: Software Built for a Foldable
Foldables often disappoint because the software isn’t ready. Apple rebuilt iOS 27 around the Duo’s design:
- Side-mounted controls. The Dock, Lock Screen controls and app navigation move to the side, which frees up vertical space and makes one-handed use easier.
- Split View. For the first time on an iPhone, you can run two apps side by side.
- StandBy on either display. Use the phone as a clock, photo frame or widget board, even when it isn’t charging.
- Screen switching. Content follows how you hold the phone, moving to the right display as you flip or fold it.
Apple says Netflix, Zoom and Slack built apps for the Duo before launch. That should help with the shortage of foldable-ready apps that Android foldables faced early on.
Camera Features
The Duo has a 48MP dual rear camera system with a Fusion Main and a Fusion Ultra Wide, plus a 12MP Center Stage front camera and an under-display camera inside. The Main camera shoots 24MP photos by default, offers 2x optical-quality zoom, and records 4K video at up to 120fps in Dolby Vision.
The fold adds a few camera features:
- Smart Take takes the shot when everyone is posing, so you don’t need a timer.
- Duo Preview shows your subject a live preview on the outer screen.
- Kid Cue plays animations on the outer display to get a child looking at the camera.
- Duo FaceTime lets someone next to you join a call on the outer screen.
- Rear-camera selfies let you use the better back cameras and frame the shot on the outer display.

Is the iPhone Duo Worth It?
It’s worth it if:
- You’ve been curious about foldables but were put off by the crease, weak dust and water protection, or apps that didn’t fit.

- You want new features like Split View and Apple Pencil support.
Think twice if:
